Hello MP Market Goers!

Savor Summer All Year Long

One of the best parts about shopping the Mineral Point Market is knowing you can take the taste of summer home with you—not just for now, but for later, too! From sweet corn you can freeze, to tomatoes you can sauce, to tasty peppers perfect for roasting—our vendors have everything you need to stock your pantry and freezer with the flavors of Wisconsin.

This Saturday is a perfect time to start. Here’s what’s fresh:

🌱 From Shooting Star Farm

Red slicing tomatoes (plenty this week!) + cherry, saladette, roma, & heirloom varieties
Carrots, salad mix, mini lettuce heads
White & Italian bottle onions, scallions, mixed beets
Eggplant, tomatillos, jalapeño, poblano, shishito & Italian frying peppers (maybe some bells)
Kale, Swiss chard, cucumbers, zucchini, leeks, basil

🌽 From Bures Berry Patch

Sweet corn (and they’ve shared their favorite freezing method below!)
raspberries & red potatoes

Freeze Your Sweet Corn the Easy Way
From Bures Berry Patch:

Shuck corn and cut raw corn off the cob.
Place 12 cups of raw corn in kettle along with 3 cups of cool water, 1/3 cup of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of salt.
Place on burner and cook on high for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Take corn mixture out of the kettle and put in a bowl. Place bowl in an ice water bath to cool the corn quickly.
Place corn/water mixture in freezer bags or containers and freeze. Makes approx. 4 pints/dozen ears.
Enjoy farm-fresh corn in the middle of winter! 🌽

Simple Frozen Roma Tomatoes
Perfect for Shooting Star Farm’s roma (or other paste) tomatoes!

Ingredients:
Fresh roma tomatoes (ripe but firm)

Instructions:
Wash tomatoes and pat dry.
Place whole tomatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid.
Transfer to freezer bags or containers.
When ready to use, run under warm water to easily slip off skins—no blanching required!
These are perfect for winter soups, sauces, and stews. 🍅

Bonus Idea: Roast & Freeze Peppers

Roast whole peppers on a grill or under a broiler until skins blister.
Place in a covered bowl for 10 minutes, then peel.
Slice and freeze in portions for use in winter soups, chili, and fajitas.

📅 Come stock up this Saturday!

Fill your kitchen with the best of summer—because Wisconsin-grown tastes even better when the snow flies. ❄️❤️

Aaron’s Peppers
Several people have asked, “When can we expect to see your peppers at the market?”
Well, believe it would help to share the “life of” the 2025 HOT chile pepper selections: Brazilian Starfish and (the 2024 favorite) Bulgarian Carrot.
(Continued from 8/2/25 News Page)
Last week in July:
Brazilian Starfish: green and tiny, teetering on the tip of a very slender branch, looking like a flattened 7-ribbed pumpkin, will turn orange, finally “ripe” fiery red. Already 35” with the potential to reach 6 + feet high.
Bulgarian Carrot: tallest plant measures 19 inches, 3 + inch long, green pods starting to turn color, soon to be “ripe” orange.
Water and fertilize. Add support. Repeat.
August
Now we wait. . . .
An “aside” So far, pleased with use of in-ground 3 gallon* containers.
Originally chosen to “limit” type of soil; also found to provide greater control over drainage. *reasonable, as only 21(count)

Want to try the incredible Reverse Sear method?
Low & Slow: Season steak and place it on a rack in a 250°F oven. Cook until the desired internal temperature is reached (around 115°F for medium-rare).
Rest: Remove the steak and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
Sear: While resting, heat a cast iron skillet or grill to high heat. Add a high-heat oil (like avocado oil) and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until a crust forms.
Enjoy! Slice and enjoy a perfectly cooked, juicy steak!
See you Saturday!

Shooting Star Farm
How grateful are we that the rain held off last Saturday until nighttime hours? Incredibly grateful! My rain gauge registered a total of 3.2” on Sunday, plus an additional 1” early Tuesday morning. We’re good on water. For the month. Thanks so much for your patience at my market stand last Saturday as I was down one helper. Things should move faster this weekend as I’ll have a third person at the stand. Vegetables this week will be much like last with a few additions and subtractions. Red slicing tomatoes are finally ripening well. I should have plenty for sale (but not case quantities yet). Cherry tomatoes, saladette, roma, and heirloom varieties will also be available. I hope to dig more carrots this week as well. In addition, I’ll have salad mix, mini lettuce heads, white and Italian bottle onions, scallions, mixed beets, eggplant, tomatillos, jalapeno and poblano peppers, shishito peppers, Italian frying peppers, possibly some bell peppers, kale, Swiss chard, cucumbers, zucchini leeks, and basil. See you Saturday!
