What a perfect day we had for the Market last weekend! This weekend is looking pretty nice too! Once again I will have lots of chicken and duck eggs on Saturday morning. Along with eggs, I will also have local, raw honey produced on my farm. I will also have a limited supply of homemade maple syrup, also produced right at our little homestead just 2 miles from town. If you aren’t able to make it to the market, feel free to reach out to me and we can arrange a time for you to pick up what you want at our farm, or I may be able to deliver! Rockin’ Highlands
Thanks to all who stopped over and visited us on Saturday! It was great warm day that we had to set up our red and white tent to keep coolers in shade. Since we started farming in 2016 we learned everything at same time- calving, fencing (electric, barb wire and panels), grazing, what hay to purchase, how to effectively pound ice when water is frozen and that our animals are built for winter and rain and can handle heat well! So by time we got first meats – it was another learning curve! I want to share about Teres Major steak- called sometimes “poor man’s tenderloin”. Thou if cooked as tenderloin – it has to be well done(best if reversed seared- but that’s for another post!). I call it – best roast steak! I typically put it in crockpot with vegetables of choice, cream of mushroom soup, envelop of beefy onion and cup of beef broth and let magic happen in next 5-7hrs. We both work full time on top of farming and this meal – ohh savory! See you under while and red tent! 🌞

Shooting Star Farm
It’s always nice to get a lot of hoeing in before the rain. It was getting a bit dry here, but a Tuesday evening shower was welcome. Late May is full-on planting season for me, and I’ve been prepping beds for zucchini, peppers, tomatoes and such, which will start hitting the fields next week. This along with the nearly weekly plantings of crops like lettuce, greens, and beets makes for a busy time of year. And then there’s the harvest! Items I plan to harvest this week are: red and French breakfast radishes, salad turnips, green butter lettuce, romaine lettuce, mini mixed lettuce heads, sprouting broccoli (a.k.a Chinese broccoli), bok choy, rhubarb, and spinach. Arugula is iffy for this week. Next week I’ll have beets! I’ll also be bringing pepper and tomato plants this weekend. Most varieties on my website are still available. You can peruse them here and come prepared. See you Saturday! – Jenny
