Open Saturday, August 22nd, 8:30-11a in Water Tower Park

Hello MP Market Goers!

If you’ve been looking for a reason to bring the kids to market this Saturday, we have a pretty good one:

Baby goats! 🐐💕

Farmers Daughter Bakery & Kitchen is bringing some of their adorable Nubian baby goats to the Mineral Point Market this week, and we’re pretty sure they’re going to steal the show.

The goats are just one small part of the busy family farm Becky and Brian have built. Together, they raise beef cattle and meat goats, along with chickens, ducks, and guineas. They currently have about 50 mama goats and 17 beef cattle—and if you ask Becky, everyone on the farm has a personality of their own.

Their Nubian goats are especially known for being laid-back, friendly, and downright snuggly. According to Becky, they have a remarkable ability to make a bad day better in about two minutes. And apparently, they all love the skid loader!

Farmers Daughter has also been a familiar name in the baking world for 14 years. What started as a bakery has grown into a busy custom baking business, with local orders, cakes, dessert trays, and dessert tables for all kinds of celebrations keeping Becky busy.

And while Becky keeps the bakery and farm moving, Brian works as a herdsman at Wiegel Farms, a local robotic dairy featuring six Lely robots. Needless to say, there’s rarely a dull moment for this family!

So come on up Saturday, say hello to Becky and the family, check out what’s fresh from the bakery and definitely make time for the baby goats. We have a feeling you’ll understand exactly why everyone loves them.

See you Saturday!

Our Homestead formerly Magic Light Photography
The goldenrod is blooming in my prairie and all along the roadside. That’s a sure sign that honey production for the bees is coming to an end. Goldenrod is one of the last sources of nectar out there for the bees to turn into honey. I’m leaving my honey supers on the hives to see if I can get some goldenrod honey. You can tell goldenrod honey by its unique smell. To me, it reminds me of the smell of a cheese factory. I have heard others say it smells like dirty socks. I know that doesn’t sound appetizing, but people love the unique flavor of goldenrod honey. Time will tell if I’m able to get some for the market later this fall.
Until then, I will have plenty of raw sweet honey from earlier this spring and summer. I still have comb honey available as well, but that supply is limited. I’ll also have our farm fresh chicken and duck eggs this week.
If you aren’t able to make it to the market on Saturday, our self-service roadside stand is stocked with both eggs and honey. We did relocate the stand a few feet to the east as we are expecting our giant willow tree to be taken down soon and didn’t want it in the way. 😢
Hope to see you Saturday morning!
Thanks,
Mike

Shooting Star Farm
Summer is in full swing and the harvest keeps growing. This week I’ll have more bunched carrots, green beans, leeks, 3 types of onions, scallions, green cabbage, possibly napa cabbage, celery, gold and red beets, Italian frying peppers, mixed bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, shishito peppers, 3 types of eggplant, red and heirloom tomatoes, roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, curly kale, swiss chard, possibly lacinato kale, zucchini, salad mix, mini lettuce heads (limited), basil, parsley, and thyme. I’m hesitant to say this, but I’m hoping for a little dry weather. Five inches of rain in two weeks is a lot for August, and digging those carrots is a messy business right now….! See you Saturday!
