Hello MP Market Goers!
I’m sure you’ve all heard of Shooting Star Farm? You’ve probably been buying your veggies from Jenny for years. She has an amazing selection of organically grown vegetables all season long. But do you know what she does in order to have things like salad mix, lettuce, and more week after week? She plants in succession!
Planting in succession involves planting small batches of seeds or seedlings at regular intervals to ensure a continuous supply of fresh goodness throughout the growing season. However, rainfall can saturate the soil, making it difficult to plant new crops or replant areas that need it. Excess moisture can delay the planting schedule as we wait for the soil to dry out sufficiently. And unfortunately, that’s what’s happened this season. The farm got too wet and Jenny was unable to plant her salad mix and lettuce heads through it. The gap now becomes evident when the scheduled harvest time of those plantings arrives but the plants are only now getting planted.
But there’s good news market friends, while Shooting Star Farm may not have much available in the lettuce category for a couple weeks, there will be other great items! Like fresh picked green beans, crisp green cabbage, beets of all colors! And NEW this week….Peppers, Eggplant, & Tomatoes! Whoo hoo, the summer veggies are here!
Here is a partial list of items at this week’s market:
Beef, Pork, Chicken, Bacon, Brats, Burgers, Eggs, Cheese, Honey, Maple Syrup, Artisan Breads, Coffee, Sweet and Savory Baked Goods, Sweet Corn, Sweet Cherries, Potatoes, Green Beans, Peppers, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Multi-Colored Beets, Kale, Kohlrabi, Green Cabbage, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Carrots, Cilantro, Dill, Parsley, Basil, Pickles, Soup, Sunflowers, Jam, Houseplants, Watercolor Drawings & Notecards, Handwoven Rugs, Sheepskin Weavings, Aronia Applesauce, and much more. Come and check it all out!
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday in Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Door County Sweet Cherries are here this week!🍒 Each year we team up to bring Door County Cherries to Mineral Point! And they are delicious! We’ll only have them for 1 week, so don’t miss out! Plus, new this week, SUNFLOWERS! I don’t know about you, but sunflowers always make me smile!🌻 In addition to cherries and sunflowers we’ll have Red & German Butterball Potatoes, Frozen Cream of Asparagus Soup Base, Honey, and a few Eggs. We wait patiently for our green bean crop to come in since the turkeys ate our first planting’s seed (probably 1 more week before we have any to bring to market). Can’t make it to market? The Patch is now open 9-6p daily, self-serve paying with cash, check, or credit via QR code. Driftless Farms
We’re back again this Saturday!
8-Generations Strong! Driftless Farms LLC is a local, family-owned business specializing in the production of 100% pure, certified organic maple syrup known as Driftless Gold. From sap collection to syrup production to marketing and distribution, family members are directly involved in every step of the process. Our goal is to deliver reliably high-quality syrup to our customers while enhancing and deepening our children’s connection to our 8‑generation family farm in the heart of the Driftless Region. Our family actively manages for a diverse and healthy forest community. At Driftless Farms, we are proud to continue the legacy of land stewardship passed down by our pioneering ancestors.
Our Grade A certified organic maple syrup is available in three grades: Amber Rich, Dark Robust, and Very Dark Strong. Richly flavored Amber Rich offers a sweet, rich taste and serves well as a delectable topping; think oatmeal, Greek yogurt, and ice cream. Dark Robust is known for its full-bodied flavor. This flavorsome favorite is lovely on pancakes, in coffee as a sweetener, and is fantastic as a glaze. Let’s not forget our Very Dark Strong option. This product boasts being the strongest of the maple flavors; a shining favorite when used as an ingredient in baked goods, granola, and so much more. Here at Driftless Farm we believe our customers should be able to consistently choose their favorite of the flavors.

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable 4th! It sure was nice taking the entire weekend to spend with the family. I am planning on being at the market this weekend, and hope to have my helper, Holden, with me again. We have had some egg sales at the farm this week and my inventory will be a little limited, so plan on shopping early if you would like our farm fresh chicken or duck eggs! If you can’t wait for the market, feel free to contact me to arrange pick up or delivery or our eggs! My bees have been busy and are taking advantage of the summer blooms, but the honey isn’t quite ready yet. I hope to have local, raw, honey available soon! Keep an eye on the Our Homestead FB page for more updates!
Thanks,
Mike

Shooting Star Farm
This recent “dry” spell has allowed me to finally get down some old crops and plant new ones. I’ve had a pretty large gap in salad greens seedings, so it will be a struggle to find much to harvest for the next couple of weeks. Lettuce will also be limited. On the other hand, peppers, eggplant, green beans, and even the first tomatoes are starting to come in. Along with a sampling of those items, I’ll have red, gold, and multi-colored beets, kale, giant kohlrabi, green cabbage, zucchini, a few cucumbers, carrots, cilantro, dill, parsley, basil, and possibly some fresh onions (not sure on that one quite yet). See you Saturday!
Sunnyside Down Farm
Sunny Side Down will be at the market on Saturday! You can also preorder for easy pickup on our website. Or just come to the market – we will have all your favorite Artisan Bread, Fresh Pies, those amazing cookies, donuts, sweet breads, and jam! ssdfarm.com
