Hello MP Market Goers!

Meet the Heart Behind the Muffins — and the Mischief!

If you’ve ever stopped by the Farmer’s Daughter Bakery & Kitchen table at the Mineral Point Market, chances are you’ve left with something delicious — and maybe a little story or two. That’s because Becky, the talented baker and big-hearted farmer behind it all, pours more than just ingredients into her baked goods — she brings a whole lot of life.

After 14 years of dairy farming with Organic Valley, a life-changing MS diagnosis led Becky and her husband Brian to pivot — and the result is a bustling life full of baking, beef cattle, meat goats, and the kind of resilience that inspires. Becky’s love for baking started with her mom and blossomed into a full-blown bakery featuring muffins, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, pies, and custom treats for every occasion. Her motto? Recipes are just suggestions. And that’s the kind of creative magic you’ll taste in every bite.

This Saturday, the market’s getting extra fun — Becky’s bringing a few of their not-so-peaceful but incredibly lovable goats for a visit! Bring the kids (or your inner child), grab a muffin or a scone, and come say hi to these mischievous market guests. 🐐💛

Come see us this Saturday from 8:30–11:00am at Water Tower Park.
The sun should be shining 🌞, we’ll be there with baked goods, fresh produce, friendly faces — and goats 🐐!

Local. Fresh. Convenient.

Warmly,
Kathy Bures

Aaron’s Peppers
Several people have asked, “When can we expect to see your peppers at the market?”
Well, believe it would help to share the “life of” the 2025 HOT chile pepper selections: Brazilian Starfish and (the 2024 favorite) Bulgarian Carrot.
(Continued from 7/26/25 News Page)
•June – transplant peppers (in peat pots) into potting soil and amendment—filled 3 gallon pots. Place in holes.
Stake Bulgarian Carrot and enclose in fence.
Install string system to support Brazilian Starfish. Enclose in trellis netting “reinforced” with tulle fabric.
Add Persian basil, a companion plant, along the edges of the enclosures.
•Water and fertilize.
•June 25 – blossoms on Bulgarian Carrot
•Add more stakes and string for support.
•July 20 –blossoms on Brazilian Starfish

Here’s a bonus:
Want to try the incredible Reverse Sear method?
Low & Slow: Season steak and place it on a rack in a 250°F oven. Cook until the desired internal temperature is reached (around 115°F for medium-rare).
Rest: Remove the steak and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
Sear: While resting, heat a cast iron skillet or grill to high heat. Add a high-heat oil (like avocado oil) and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until a crust forms.
Enjoy! Slice and enjoy a perfectly cooked, juicy steak!
See you Saturday!

Shooting Star Farm
It’s Wednesday and there’s been a nice break in the heat. Hooray! With it comes more rain. Not Hooray! I consistently plant salad greens and lettuce whenever I can get into the ground – a little tricky this summer – but do so every week to 10 days. The Asian and Italian greens that go into salad mix must be covered immediately with floating row cover to keep little bugs from chewing thousands of holes in each leaf. Even though very lightweight, the row cover adds around 4-degrees of warmth to the outside temp. Not a big deal. Baby greens can grow fine in the heat. The problem is that row cover also traps moisture. And boy has it been moist! I just plowed under twelve one-hundred foot rows of arugula, mizuna, etc. that were completely destroyed by moist heat. Ugh. But we keep at it. This is a long way of saying I may not have salad mix this weekend. Lettuce will be extremely limited, too. However, I will have more tomatoes than last week. Varieties such as cherry, saladette, red, heirloom, and possibly the first plum tomatoes will be on my table. I’ll have lots of freshly dug carrots, a new crop of green beans, more fresh white and Italian bottle onions, eggplant, bell and Italian frying peppers, jalapeno peppers, shishito peppers, colorful beets, kale, red cabbage, napa cabbage, basil, cilantro, and a bounty of cucumbers and zucchini. See you this dry and pleasant Saturday!
