Hello MP Market Goers!

Fall is in Bloom: Mums & Grasses at Market!

As the days grow crisper and our gardens wind down, there’s a beautiful shift happening at the Mineral Point Market—and it starts with Hook’s Corner Greenhouse! Tom and Molly are back this season with a lovely lineup of fall décor: rich mums, textural grasses, and cozy houseplants to brighten up your home.

Whether you want to refresh your porch, layer textures inside, or find that perfect cozy touch, their fall collection brings warmth and seasonal charm. Every plant is lovingly grown from seed, plug, or cutting right here in Mineral Point.

Why Hook’s Corner Greenhouse Makes Every Space Feel Like Home

Seasonal Simplicity: Mums and grasses add instant autumn ambiance with minimal fuss.
Homegrown Heart: Support local growers who pour care into every plant.
Design Made Easy: Mix and match their vibrant blooms or earth-tone grasses for effortless fall style.
Long-Lasting Beauty: Choose quality that lasts from season to season—perfect for porches, mantels, and entryways.

Come take a peek this Saturday. Whether you’re grabbing groceries or gathering goods for your fall décor, stop by and find something that speaks to autumn’s coziness.

Aaron’s Peppers
Owe you an update.
The Bulgarian carrot (hot) peppers are slowly turning their “ripe” orange but not enough at the same time to bring to market. Nature is fickle.
The 6 plants are really “pumping out” the Brazilian starfish (hot) peppers. But all are still green. (Need to turn orange and finally “ripe” fiery red.)
Previously: green and tiny, teetering on the tip of a very slender branch, looking like a flattened 7-ribbed pumpkin.
Now that the fruit is larger, it’s best described as pendent (leaning over).
First time growing this variety so have no idea if they will achieve their “ripe” red. Seems so long ago (January) when they were started from seed.
All the more reason to strongly consider trying to
overwinter this pepper. (Peppers are perennials).Yet remain hopeful even as the sunlight lessens, day- and night-time temperatures lower.
Water, fertilize, and add support. Repeat.
Watch and wait.

Our Homestead formerly Magic Light Photography
It’s been another busy week here at Our Homestead. I have been busy with my bees, harvesting honey and now prepping to get them ready to go into winter. Amy has been busy cleaning out the chicken coops and the barn as well as keeping our boys entertained while I’m at work. There is always a lot of work to do, but we make sure we have some down time to relax too, and the weather this weekend is looking perfect! I will be at the market this weekend with lots of raw, local honey. I will have honey ranging in size from 1/2 pound all the way up to 3 pounds as well as some comb honey! All of the honey I sell is harvested right here on our property, just two miles from town. I will also have our pasture raised chicken and duck eggs as well as our up-cycled shopping totes, made from our feed bags. Be sure to check out all of the different designs! Hope to see you under the water tower Saturday!
Thanks,
Mike

Want to try the incredible Reverse Sear method?
Low & Slow: Season steak and place it on a rack in a 250°F oven. Cook until the desired internal temperature is reached (around 115°F for medium-rare).
Rest: Remove the steak and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
Sear: While resting, heat a cast iron skillet or grill to high heat. Add a high-heat oil (like avocado oil) and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until a crust forms.
Enjoy! Slice and enjoy a perfectly cooked, juicy steak!
See you Saturday!
