Shooting Star Farm
It’s been a busy week getting in fall crops, trying to stay on top of hoeing, weeding, and watering, and harvesting continues. The deer got curious and decided to see what was on my side of the fence earlier this week. They enjoyed the delicious centers of about 50 heads of romaine lettuce. Yum. Darn. I fixed the fence and curtailed the damage to one area and will still have some butter lettuces along with a mix of the smaller varieties. Cherry tomatoes and green beans are still in limited supply, but you can reserve some by preordering for Market pickup from 6pm Wednesday evening until 7pm Thursday. Order here. This week my selection will include fresh, bunched white onions (mainly Walla Walla variety), the aforementioned green beans, lettuces, and cherry tomatoes, (plus a smattering of other red and heirloom tomatoes), salad mix, arugula, sweet peppers (regular and Italian frying types), shishito peppers, beets galore in red, gold, and muti-color selections, Kossak kohlrabi, kale, Swiss chard, zucchini and summer squash, cucumbers, some smaller red and green cabbages, the last of the summer carrots, dill, parsley, and possibly cilantro (more likely next week…). Lots to choose from. See you Saturday!
