Open Saturday, August 8th, 8:30-11am in Water Tower Park

Hello MP Market Goers!

We just want to say “thank you” to everyone who came out last week and supported us through the rain! Market begins for us long before 8:30 Saturday morning, with harvests throughout the week, proofing dough the day before, and packing everything up. As vendors we are forever hopeful that the weather predictions will turn around and that market will be beautiful, but alas last Saturday was not. So thank you for making it all worth it! We so appreciate you!

One of the Best Things About Market? Discovering Something New 🌿

One of the things we love most about the Mineral Point Market is that there’s always something new to discover.

Sometimes it’s a vegetable you’ve never cooked before. A new variety of tomato. A loaf of artisan bread fresh from the oven. Or a handcrafted item made by one of our talented local artisans.

This week, we’d like to introduce you to something you may not have heard of before—the aronia berry.

Also known as the black chokeberry, the aronia berry is native to North America and has been gaining attention in recent years for its exceptionally high antioxidant content. It’s a tart little berry that’s often enjoyed in jams, syrups, baked goods, smoothies, and juices.

Aronia is also a great fit for Wisconsin. As a hardy perennial shrub, it returns year after year, provides food for pollinators, and requires less soil disturbance than crops that need to be replanted annually.

Our own Roberta from Barham Gardens is passionate about introducing people to this remarkable fruit. She’ll gladly share recipes, growing tips, and information about the berry’s many uses — just ask!😊

While fresh aronia berries won’t be harvested until late August, you can already get a taste of them this Saturday with Barham Gardens’ homemade aronia jam. It’s a delicious introduction to a berry that has been quietly growing in popularity.

That’s one of the joys of shopping at the market. You never know what you’ll discover — or who you’ll meet.

So take a stroll through the market this Saturday. Ask a question. Try something new. You just might find your next favorite food.

We hope to see you Saturday!

First off I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the Market last weekend, in spite of the not so perfect weather. Your support of all of the vendors is truely appriciated! I would also like to thank Kathy for the wonderfull feature in last weeks news letter!
It has been another crazy busy week here on the farm. I pulled lots of boxed filled with honey🍯 from my hives and have been working hard to get it all extracted. I have also been busy bottling so I will be well stocked for the market this weekend with lots of local, raw honey. I will also have comb honey while supplies last. Once this is gone, there won’t be anymore until next year so get it while you can!
I will also have our farm fresh chicken 🐔 and duck 🦆 eggs 🥚. Our poltry is pasture raised and free to explore our entire property, and sometimes beyond!
If you aren’t able to get to the market, feel free to stop out and check out our self service market stand! I hope to see you Saturday morning.
Thanks,
Mike

Shooting Star Farm
It seems like it’s been a struggle to keep salad greens and lettuce growing consistently this season. I missed some plantings back in late June and early July with the too-wet weather. Then we had extreme heat and drought which eliminated about ½ my greens and lettuce crops. Looking back, losing greens/lettuce crops is pretty typical for any season. What’s different is the demand. We all don’t want to get what’s going around, and farmers’ markets are playing a role in providing a source of food that many feel more confident about. I so much appreciate the extra demand for my greens! I’ll be swimming in them again soon enough. I will have salad mix and likely arugula for Saturday along with a limited number of mini lettuce heads. There’s lots of other great stuff, too: scallions, onions, kale, fennel, frying peppers, bell peppers, a nice selection of eggplant, green beans, beets, celery, basil, cilantro, dill, parsley, tomatoes of all colors and sizes, cabbage, and a bit of broccoli. See you Saturday!

Sugarface Donuts
We’ll be back August 15th.
