Hello MP Market Goers!
Heat Waves & Happy Plants☀️
If you’ve been talking about the heat this week, you’re not alone!🥵🔥
While many of us are searching for shade and air conditioning, summer has everyone at the market a little busy — including the vegetables, the bees, and the farmers.

🫑 Peppers are finally in their happy place. After a cool spring that slowed their growth, these hot summer days are helping the pepper plants thrive. Warm sunshine means they’re growing quickly, ripening beautifully, and ready to make their way to market.

🥒 Zucchini seems to have only one speed once summer heat arrives, full throttle! Give it sunshine and a little rain, and before you know it, gardeners everywhere are wondering how one plant could produce so much.

🌽 Sweet corn loves warm weather, too. The recent heat, and the irrigation that Farmer Ed has been putting on, is giving those tall green stalks the boost they need as they race toward one of summer’s most anticipated harvests. Bures Berry Patch anticipates corn to arrive around August 1st.

🐝 The bees have an important job as well. While they’re busy pollinating flowers and collecting nectar, they’re also gathering water to help cool their hives. Back home, thousands of bees work together, fanning their wings to circulate air and keep the hive at just the right temperature — a remarkable bit of natural air conditioning!🐝
👨🌾 And then there are the farmers. While many of us are sleeping, they’re already in the fields harvesting in the cool morning hours, watering crops, checking on animals, and doing everything they can to help plants, and livestock, weather the heat.🌱🐔🐮

We hope you’ll join us this Saturday and see what the season is bringing to market. Every week brings something new!

Wow, what a week! I think I’m over this heat. It’s been a lot of fun putting on my bee suite this week to do some bee 🐝 work! 🥵 The weather has been good for the bees and they are busy packing away honey. I have a few hives that are getting so big that I have to use a ladder to open them up! It should be a great year for a big honey harvest.
I am planning on being at the Market Saturday with the usual assortment of eggs and honey.
I will have both chicken 🐔 and duck 🦆 eggs 🥚 as well as lots of local, raw honey 🍯.
If you can’t make it to the Market, you are welcome to stop out to the farm and pick up what you need. We have been keeping our self-service roadside stand stocked with eggs and honey.
Hope to see you on Saturday!
Thanks,
Mike

Shooting Star Farm
It’s been a week! Both humans and plants are doing their best to tolerate this on-going hot spell, and most everything (and everyone) is doing okay. Unfortunately, I won’t have much in the way of salad mix, but that’s due to delayed planting persistent wet weather about three weeks ago. I’ll do my best, but supplies will be tight. I will, however, have the first sweet peppers of the season. These are mostly Italian frying types and a few bell peppers. Fresh, bunched onions will be ready, along with more scallions, green beans, zucchini, multi-colored beets, curly kale, chard, red and green cabbages, mini lettuce heads, basil, and an assortment of cherry, heirloom, and red tomatoes. You’d think the hot temps would ripen tomatoes at a record pace, but mine are still slow coming in. Get there early! Come grab some iced coffee and a spot in the shade. See you Saturday!
Sugarface Donuts
We’ll be back July 25th.
