Mineral Point Market returns this Saturday, May 3rd, 8:30-11am in Water Tower Park

Scroll down for a complete list of who will be vending this week.

Hello MP Market Goers!

We’re Back at the Park —
And We Can’t Wait to See You!

The wait is over — the Mineral Point Market returns this Saturday, May 3rd, and we’re so excited to welcome you back to Water Tower Park for another season of fresh food, locally made/grown goods, and friendly faces. Rain or shine, we’ll be there each week — and we hope you will be too!

As we kick off a new season, we also want to take a moment to share some heartfelt news. Our friends at Marr’s Valley View Farms have officially retired. We are so grateful for the almost 30 years they spent with us, sharing their amazing meats and warm smiles. They’ve been a true cornerstone of our Saturdays. From Mike manning their booth and sweeping out the pavilion every morning to Lois starting up this very newsletter. They’ll be truly missed — and we wish them all the best in this next chapter. If you see them out and about, be sure to give them a “CONGRATS” and a “Thank You” and hopefully we’ll be seeing them in the park relaxing this season.💛💛

But there’s exciting news too! We are thrilled to introduce some fresh faces to help fill the gap!

🎉 Welcome Rockin’ Highlands! They’ll be bringing their pasture-raised meats and good energy to the market for the first time this year.
🐏🐑 Laxey Creek Sheep Ranch is also back — and this time they’ll be joining us more regularly! Expect grass-fed lamb brats, summer sausage, and a variety of lamb cuts. New this year, they’ll also offer lamb snack sticks and farmstead soap made from sheep tallow!

Including returning favorites and brand-new vendors, this season is shaping up to be one of the best yet.🥳🥳

So grab a friend, pack your tote bags, and come spend your Saturday mornings in the park over coffee, flowers, food, and conversation!

Marr’s Valley View Farms
A Fond Farewell After 29 Wonderful Years at the Market
Dear Friends,
As the opening day of the Mineral Point Market approaches on May 3rd, we want to share some bittersweet news:
After 29 amazing years, we’ve made the decision to retire from direct marketing our meat products and will not be returning to the Market in 2025.
What a journey it has been.
Our direct marketing story began in 1995—the same year the Market was founded. It all started with Lois and Joyce asking Mike to plant sweetcorn for their families. That summer gave us a bumper crop, so the youngest kids set up a stand near Lois’ house in town. Two adorable boys selling sweetcorn by the roadside? It was an instant hit!
That fall, John from the Chamber of Commerce invited us to bring sweetcorn to the farmers’ market the following year—and just like that, our MP Market story began.
A few years later, as we looked for ways to diversify the farm and gain more control over our revenue, direct marketing our Black Angus beef felt like a natural next step. We were already at the Market, so in the fall of 1999, we gave it a shot. It was a success—and we never looked back. We later added pork to our offerings and proudly launched Wisconsin’s first Meat CSA in the early 2000s.
Over time, the CSA grew to include deliveries in Chicago, Platteville, Madison, Milwaukee, and of course, Mineral Point. We also built lasting wholesale relationships with incredible restaurants, hospitals, and retailers across the state and beyond.
From fundraiser gift boxes for local schools to brats and burgers at the MP Car Show, from donations to the UW School of Agriculture to Saturday mornings at the Market—we’ve loved every moment of growing and giving back alongside this community.
Through it all, the Mineral Point Market was our home base.
It’s where Marr’s Valley View Farms took root. It’s where we met so many of you—customers who quickly became friends—and together, helped build something truly meaningful.
While we’re stepping away from behind the table, the farm is still going strong, just at a more relaxed pace. And don’t worry—you’ll still see us at the Market from time to time, just on the other side of the table, enjoying all that this amazing group of vendors has to offer.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for 25 years of support, friendship, and unforgettable memories.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Marr’s Valley View Farms Family

Our Homestead formerly Magic Light Photography
Happy Spring Market-goers! It’s already been a very busy spring here at Our Homestead. Our chickens and ducks have been laying like crazy, we have been busy hatching chicks and ducklings to expand our flock, three of the four bee colonies that survived the winter are building up like crazy and I have started three new colonies. If the weather cooperates I plan on adding some honey supers to a couple of my hives to see if I can get some spring honey! Our 10 year old, Camden, has started his very first bee colony this Spring too! So far he’s loving having his own bees and loves to visit the bee yard with me. I also spent some time earlier this spring making some maple syrup.
Now that you know what I have been up to, here is what I plan on bringing to the Market on Saturday. EGGS! I plan on having a lot of chicken and duck eggs Saturday morning. Along with eggs, I will also have local, raw honey. My honey supply is running low, but I should have plenty for the first few weeks of the Market. I will also have pure beeswax candles, and market totes made from upcycled feed bags. I will also have a limited supply of my homemade maple syrup! I hope to see you under the water tower on Saturday. The weather forecast looks perfect for the first Market of the season!
Thanks,
Mike

Shooting Star Farm
Spring has sprung with daffodils, tulips, and magnolia blossoms. It’s been a busy spring doing field work and planting peas, lettuce, onions, brassicas, beets, and greens between the rains. As the field crops grow outside, I’ll be harvesting from hoophouses bursting with early veggies ready to eat. This Saturday looks to be a beautiful day for the opening of the Mineral Point Market. Come and get your fix of spinach, salad mix, and arugula. I’ll also have beautiful mini bok choi heads, along with the first salad turnips and radishes. Tomato and pepper plants will be available for purchase again this year, but not until May 10th. Don’t put those sensitive plants in the ground yet! You can see my tomato and pepper varieties here. It’ll be great to see all your smiling faces as we embark on a new season. See you Saturday!
