Open Saturday, August 17th, 8:30-11am in Water Tower Park

Hello MP Market Goers!

Another beautiful rain overnight!

Weather is more than just a backdrop to our farming efforts; it’s a key player in every stage of our crops’ development. Here’s a closer look at how different weather conditions impact our farms.

Temperature variations, such as early or late frosts, can damage delicate plants and reduce yields, while high temperatures may cause crops to bolt (think lettuce) or suffer sunburn (think berries & tomatoes). Adequate rainfall supports crop growth and reduces irrigation needs, but excessive rain can lead to waterlogged soil and fungal diseases. Sunlight is also essential for photosynthesis and healthy growth, though overcast days can slow development setting harvests back. Wind and storms can cause physical damage to plants and infrastructure.

Each growing season is a unique interplay of these weather elements. For instance, this year’s early excessive rainfall delayed several plantings and has now lead to fungal diseases in some crops. But rainfall and temperatures have recently balanced out and other crops are thriving (like green beans & eggplant)!

As a farmer, it’s hard to ever be completely happy with the weather.😆😉
However, understanding these factors helps us make informed decisions about planting schedules, crop varieties, and management practices. It also underscores the importance of flexibility and resilience in farming. We’re constantly adapting to the weather, striving to mitigate its adverse effects while maximizing its benefits.

Thank you for trusting us to grow/produce for you! Your continued support enables us to face each season with optimism and dedication. Here’s to the many more harvests to come, shaped by the ever-changing dance of weather and farming. 💃👩‍🌾

Just Poured Candle Co.
My name is Holly Adams, and I created Just Poured Candle Co. in 2022 with the support of my family and husband David, a Mineral Point native. Why? Well, I love candles and I love to make things. As a full-time caregiver for my husband, who suffered a C4 spinal cord injury and stroke in 2016, I found candle making as a creative outlet to help relieve everyday stress and fulfill a passion.
My mission is simple. Provide hand-crafted, non-toxic candles that add warmth and inspiration to any room. All my candles are made from 100% soy wax, from soybeans grown in the United States. I also do not use any dyes or additives, and only high-quality fragrance oils that do not contain parabens or phthalates.
In addition to making candles, I make several other all natural products as well. Some of my other products include room sprays, bug and tick repellent, and lip balm.
I’ll be at market again on September 7th

The Market was buzzing with activity last weekend, and so was my table with my observation hive of bees! I am planning on bringing the bees back again this week and this time I hope to be able to have the queen in the hive for everyone to try to find. If you think finding Waldo was a challenge, see if you can find the queen bee in a busy hive! My fresh, local, raw honey was a big hit last weekend, and I will be bringing even more this week. I will once again be bringing our farm fresh chicken and duck eggs to the market. My supply of eggs will be limited due to some farm sales this week. I will also have some of our up-cycled feed bag market totes. I hope to see you on Saturday morning!
Thanks,
Mike
