Hello MP Market Goers!
As we continue into this gorgeous fall season, we can’t help but reflect on how wonderful it has been to enjoy beautiful Saturdays at our market. The crisp air, vibrant foliage, and warm sunshine have created the perfect backdrop for our weekly gatherings, making each Saturday a delightful experience.
Our vendors have been bringing their best seasonal produce, handmade crafts, and delicious treats, showcasing the abundance of fall. Whether it’s the rich hues of radishes and squash or the aromatic spices wafting from baked goods, there’s something magical in the air.
We’ve seen families enjoying a leisurely morning, friends catching up over coffee, and new faces discovering the charm of our market community. The laughter of children, the sound of live music, and the friendly banter between vendors and customers creates an atmosphere that feels just right.☕🥐🎶
And it’s going to be just right once again this Saturday, cool and crisp with some nice sun peaking through!🍂🌤️
We look forward to seeing you again this weekend! Don’t forget to bring your reusable bags and your favorite people to enjoy another beautiful fall day together.

Aaron’s Peppers
Fresh from the garden: Aaron’s pick for 2024 – The Bulgarian Carrot Pepper* and Bulgarian Carrot HOT Pepper “Jelly”
Ingredients: sugar, Bulgarian Carrot peppers, apple cider vinegar, SureJell
In quotes because, by definition, it’s really a jam.
*It’s an heirloom, meaning that you can save the seeds.
Peppers are members of the Solanaceae (Sol a na she a underline means long) – the nightshade or potato amily – which also includes: eggplant, petunia, tobacco, and tomato.
Their genus is Capsicum (CAP sa coom) from Greek kapto meaning to bite. Capsicum consists of approximately 22 wild species and five domesticated species (Bosland 1994): C. annuum, C. baccatum, C. chinense, C. frutescens, and C. pubescens.
The Bulgarian carrot pepper’s species is C. annuum (ANN you um).
You don’t need “brick and mortar” when you can have a face-to-face experience at the Market!

Calaur Farm
Our garlic is cured and ready for you! Calaur Farm hopes to see you Saturday with our mix of hardneck garlic, starting with our main varieties of Music and German Extra Hardy.
On our small family farm, we are still in the early years of growing certified organic hardneck garlic. We are having so much fun experimenting with new heirloom varieties and see how they respond to our soil and climate. Compared to most supermarket garlic, which tends to be softneck varieties, hardneck garlic has a central flowering stalk called a scape and produces fewer but larger bulbs. These varieties produce a more complex flavor, ranging from mild and sweet to lingering heat. They are also more suitable for growing in northern climates, where we plant early October and harvest in July.
This year we added two new Creole varieties, the spicy Metechi and the sweet Italian Aglio Rosso di Sulmona. If you are interested in a bulk order, find us at the market or text (608-778-8895) or email us any time.

Just Poured Candle Co.
My name is Holly Adams, and I created Just Poured Candle Co. in 2022 with the support of my family and husband David, a Mineral Point native. Why? Well, I love candles and I love to make things. As a full-time caregiver for my husband, who suffered a C4 spinal cord injury and stroke in 2016, I found candle making as a creative outlet to help relieve everyday stress and fulfill a passion.
My mission is simple. Provide hand-crafted, non-toxic candles that add warmth and inspiration to any room. All my candles are made from 100% soy wax, from soybeans grown in the United States. I also do not use any dyes or additives, and only high-quality fragrance oils that do not contain parabens or phthalates.
In addition to making candles, I make several other all natural products as well. Some of my other products include room sprays, bug and tick repellent, and lip balm.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s the middle of October already! I’m sure enjoying the cooler weather and the time spent outside. I am planning on being at the market once again this weekend. The hens are slowing down, and we have had a few egg sales at the farm again this week, so supplies will be limited at the market again. Shop early if you are looking for eggs, or message me before the market to reserve them. I will also have raw, local honey as well as beeswax candles and bulk beeswax for your own projects. I will also have a few of our shopping totes made from recycled feed bags to help you carry all of your market purchases! I hope to see you Saturday morning. Please note that I will not be at the market on 10/19.
Thanks,
Mike

Shooting Star Farm
We’re getting down to the last of the Markets, which is hard to believe given the incredibly warm weather this fall. We may finally be reaching the end of the warmth next week. Forecasts are for frost. I know what I’ll be up to this weekend: draining hoses, shutting off water lines, securing the hoophouse doors and endwalls, covering frost-sensitive crops that can make it through a cold snap, and harvesting those that can’t. It’ll be a busy weekend. But first I’ll be harvesting for this weekend’s Market. Here’s what I hope to have: Mini lettuces, salad mix, arugula, red and French breakfast radishes, green cabbage, leeks, delicata and honey nut winter squash, mixed beets, lacinato kale, curly kale, some small kohlrabi, celery, yellow onions, roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, random colorful tomatoes, the last of the baby eggplant, a few cucumbers, a small amount of spinach, cilantro, parsley, thyme, sage, and possibly salad turnips. See you Saturday!
