May 30th – Week 5

Scroll down to see individual vendor product offering  and pre-order instructions for this week’s market

The Heat has come to Wisconsin!

It’s great to finally feel as though we’re exiting out of the cold, wet spring mode and into the warm summer mode. I’m sure not all of you enjoy the heat but I for one love how it changes the landscape. Not only do the trees start budding out but the gardens seem to explode both with delicious things we can eat and with things of beauty and wonderful scents that we can bring inside. Like fresh cut flowers from Sweet Earth Garden and Vintage China. Each week Barbara brings beautiful bouquets to market that can grace our homes with joyful color and summertime fragrance.

Most of our vendors are offering the option to either shop the market or pre-order for curbside pickup at market. Be sure to scroll down to learn who will be at market this Saturday, what they’ll be vending, and how to purchase from them.

This market will stay a safe and healthy place to shop if we all take measures to protect each other. Check out our covid safety measures to learn more. Remember, we’re in this together!

Here’s a map highlighting where curbside pickup will be taking place

To make curbside pickup even easier, please have a sign on your rear passenger side window with your FIRST and LAST name + the farms you ordered from.

Here is a partial list of items at this week’s market:

Beef, Pork, Bacon, Poultry, Cheese, Eggs, Tomato Plants, Spinach, Salad Mix, Baby Arugula, Lettuce Heads, Radishes, Kohlrabi, Napa Cabbage, Swiss Chard, Cilantro, Dill, Asparagus, Maple Syrup, Honey, Sweet Bread, Scones, Muffins, Pies, Cookies, Bars,  Breakfast Burritos, Artisan Bread, Coffee, Sweet and Savory Baked Goods, Jams, Goat Milk & Shea Butter Soaps, Fresh Cut Flowers, Cub Scout Popcorn, and much more. Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this first Saturday of the season in Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Shooting Star Farm

Summer weather came upon us very quickly this week. I am not used to working in the heat yet, so it’s been taking some getting used to! Things are really growing quickly right now – the cucumbers in the hoophouse are starting to get blossoms, and hoophouse tomatoes have gotten past their transplant adjustment and are ready for trellising. I still need to get my peppers and eggplants in, but will do so soon.
It’s a bit difficult to predict Saturday’s offerings 5 days out, but this is my best guess for what’ll be on the table: Spinach, salad mix, baby arugula, lots of medium-sized lettuce heads, some larger red leaf and possibly butter lettuce, red and French breakfast radishes, kohlrabi (the smaller kind) a few napa cabbage heads, Swiss chard, cilantro, and dill. I may have kale and salad turnips. Both are a little to close to call. I have a smattering of tomato plants left (still looking good!) and will bring a small assortment of cherry, heirloom, roma, and red varieties one last time.
If you want to pre-order for Market pick-up, go to www.shootingstarfarmwi.com . Ordering starts at 6pm Wednesday and closes at 7pm Thursday (or sell-out). You can pay with credit/debit card, or pay at pick-up with cash, check, or credit/debit. My card reader actually worked last week! Oh the glitches of new systems… See you Saturday! – Jenny
