Hello MP Market Goers!

Maybe now that we’ve had the hard frost, it’s time to get out in the garden and start planting! And whether it’s a vegetable garden or flower garden you’re planting, the Mineral Point Market has some great additions for you. This week, Shooting Star Farm will have their tomato, basil, and pepper starts and Hook’s Corner Greenhouse will have loads of annuals as well as hanging baskets (if your not one to plant a garden but still want the color). Be sure to stop up Saturday for the best picks in color and flavor!

Shooting Star Farm
This spring has been windy, quite cold, quite hot, and moderate – all in the last 2 weeks! Some of my field crops are fine with the wild temperature swings, and others, especially short-season crops, just don’t like it. Bok choy in the hoophouse is looking beautiful, while my field crop – planted 3 weeks later – is ready to bolt! Those hoophouses have a nice, moderating effect. So all this is a way of saying that I have limited amounts of some crops this week. Arugula will be scarce (not certain yet), as will radishes. Although I will have some red bunches. Also lots of gorgeous, hoophouse grown salad turnips, a nice supply of salad mix, many heads of baby bok choy, some cilantro bunches, and my first lettuce heads from the hoophouse. These will primarily be the small, colorful, delicious varieties such as baby oak, butter, and bibb. And don’t forget plants. I will bring tomato, basil, and sweet pepper transplants this week. To read about varieties or to place an order, visit my website here and go the “order” page. You can open a file with variety descriptions. The ordering window is from Wednesday 6pm through Thursday 7pm for Saturday market pick-up. This Saturday looks to be beautiful. See you then! Jenny
